Surgery and Treatment Discharge Instructions:
It takes at least 2 weeks for a wound to heal. You can prevent
prolonged healing times and other potentially serious complications by complying
with these instructions:
No food until after 10:00 p.m. following surgery (same day), then feed ¼ the normal amount. At 8:00 p.m. you
may offer only 1 cup of water for dogs and ¼ cup for cats.
No running, jumping, or playing for 2 weeks. Your pet needs to be confined to
walking on a leash or lying around indoors for this time.

Call the clinic if you notice any of these symptoms or signs of a possible
life-threatening problem:
1. Blood draining from an incision (surgery site).
2. Depressed attitude with no appetite.
3. Vomiting or coughing.
4. Incision is red, swollen, or has a discharge.
5. Pet refuses to eat anything.
6. Incision looks like it’s opening up.
If your pet has a drain in his/her surgical site, then please keep the dripping
material wiped away and off of your pet. You can clean the area with warm water
or diluted (by half) peroxide.
It is very important that you keep your appointment for suture removal, recheck,
and/or drain removal so that we can help your pet heal properly.
