STANDARD DENTAL INFORMATION

A ROUTINE DENTAL SCALING AND POLISH IS PERFORMED TO PREVENT AND TREAT DISEASE. This is recommended for most pets starting in their 4th through 6th year, depending on home care and oral hygiene of each pet. Some disease conditions can predispose pets to gum disease, though more disease is caused by poor oral hygiene. Most pets require this every 1 to 3 years.

THE FEE FOR THIS PROCEDURE IS BASED ON THE TIME REQUIRED AND SUPPLIES NEEDED TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF YOUR PET. This fee may include the standard recommendations of pre-anesthesia blood-work, urinalysis, pain medication, IV catheter and fluids, anesthesia, antibiotics, and sealant.

TARTAR is the accumulation of plaque that has hardened on the teeth, usually starting at the gum line in conjunction with inflammation of the gums.

GINGIVITIS is the inflammation or swelling and redness of the gum tissue. If untreated, this leads directly to the ability of mouth bacteria to enter your pet’s bloodstream.

PETS THAT DO NOT GET THE PLAQUE AND TARTAR REMOVED IN TIME, WILL INEVITABLY SUFFER FROM BACTERIAL INFECTION AND DAMAGE TO MOST INTERNAL ORGANS. The most commonly found sites for bacteria to do their damage are the heart valves, kidneys, lungs, and liver.

DENTAL HEALTH IS YOUR CHOICE. LET US HELP YOU KEEP YOUR PET AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE. We will perform a detailed physical exam prior to this procedure and will advise bloodwork, urinalysis, and or antibiotics just prior to anesthesia. We will not proceed with today’s procedure if we feel your pet is not in appropriate health for anesthesia.

HOME CARE DENTAL PRODUCTS ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP YOUR PET AVOID THE NEED FOR PROFESSIONAL DENTAL TREATMENT. The technicians can demonstrate the appropriate usage of these products. We also have available, a special tartar control food, and low protein food for kidney disorders.
